The mission of CLJ is to protect and promote the welfare of children and juveniles in the Republic of Zambia.
The Center for Law and Justice (CLJ) is a not-for-profit organization incorporated as a company limited by guarantee in the Republic of Zambia. The mission of CLJ is to protect and promote the welfare of children and juveniles. CLJ seeks to safeguard the legal rights of children as well as advocate for systematic improvements in juvenile justice through its comprehensive programming.
Zambia’s domestic laws recognize the vulnerability of children and grant them special legal protection. Despite this protective legal frame-work however, a lot of children remain vulnerable and do not access the protection they are entitled to by law. While the government of Zambia bears the ultimate legal duty to protect children, we believe that an organization like CLJ can play a critical role in achieving the worthwhile goal of legal justice for all Zambian juveniles.
CLJ’s programs – legal education, legal research, legal aid, and advocacy – improve access to legal representation for juveniles, inform juveniles of their basic rights, draw attention to gaps within the system, provide specialized training and research support for Magistrates and other legal officials, and advocate for law and policies that strengthen juvenile justice systems. Our programs are constantly expanding and we invite collaborative partnerships from other organizations with similar objectives.
